More than 25 Employees of Jal Nigam staged a protest outside the head office of the Peyjal Nigam Uttarakhand, alleging that they have not received salaries for the past three months.

The Jal Nigam staff under the banner of ‘Adhikari Karmchari Sanyukt Samanvaya Samiti, Peyjal Nigam’ said that they would launch an indefinite agitation soon if their demands are not heard.

A K Chaturvedi, president of the samiti, said, “If we do not get our salaries soon, we will intensify our agitation. The state government has to pay the nigam dues worth Rs 19.5 crore. This is why we have not received salaries for the past three months.

He added, “We have now decided to hold a tarpan ceremony (prayer) in Haridwar next week for the ancestors of the officials in the finance department so that wisdom is bestowed upon these officers and they release the pending money so that we can be paid.

“We have not been paid for July, August and September. We have families to take care of. This is just exploitation. The government should release the money,” Chaturvedi said.
