Uttarakhand BJP demanded anĀ investigation into the allegations of corruption and irregularities in Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) under its current Vice-Chancellor P K Garg.

A BJP delegation led by Pradesh General Secretary Naresh Bansal met Governor K K Paul and handed him a memorandum alleging irregularities in appointments made during the present VC’s tenure and his protective attitude towards a highly-placed official accused of sexual harassment of girl students.

The BJP delegation demanded the Chief Secretary be asked to investigateĀ the allegations against the present VC who is also a professor of the civil engineering department of IIT- Roorkee and recommend appropriate action against him.

Accusing Garg of making appointments in violation of the norms, the memorandum said a man called Arun Kumar Sharma was appointed as Assistant Examination Controller through outsourcing, at a salary of Rs 47,000 flouting a government order which says any appointment made through outsourcing cannot get a salary of more than Rs 33,000.

The VC has also been accused of putting his own favourites on selection panels for appointments.

The memorandum also charged the Vice Chancellor with shielding the Director of Mahila Praudyogiki Sansthan, Dehradun who is facing charges of sexually harassing girl students.

“Not instituting an inquiry against the Director of the Sansthan despite such serious allegations indicates that the VC (UTU) is hand-in-glove with him,” it said.

Urging the Governor to institute an inquiry into the alleged irregularities under Garg at the (UTU) University, the party said the institution must be saved from earning a “bad name” for itself.
